Janet Gardner

(1951– )

Janet Gardner earned her Bachelor's degree in music education from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN. During her 33 years of teaching elementary general music in Montevideo, MN, she facilitated workshops at various state universities and was a clinician at a number of state music conventions. She was a featured composer/clinician at various music clinics in the United States and Canada. Janet was named the 1995 Minnesota Music Classroom Teacher of the Year and served as the Minnesota Elementary Composition Contest chairperson for six years.

Janet is the composer of a number of musicals published by Alfred, including, Bones!, Broadway Santa, The Granny Awards, The Highlight Zone, The Phantom of the Music Room, and Star Search. Her Alfred choral pieces include Godfrey Gordon Gustavus Gore, Nathan Nobb, The Tide Rises, The Tide Falls, and The Wind. She has received annual ASCAP awards for her works.

In her community, Janet serves as a church musician, directs an ecumenical contemporary music group, and is on the board of the Minnesota Valley Community Concert Association. Retiring form teaching in 2006, Janet continues to compose music in Montevideo, MN, where she resides with her husband, David.
