Ben Spalding is the choral director at Centerville High School in Centerville, Ohio, where he directs all five of the choirs: Concert Choir, Women’s Choir, Men’s Choir, Symphonic Choir, and the a cappella group Forte. Forte has placed second overall at the International Championship of High School A Cappella three times. Forte has recorded 6 albums, including 2 albums of original a cappella music, which have won numerous Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards (CARAs) including the Best Overall High School CD in 2013. Forte has performed as part of The Sing-Off tour and has collaborated with artists like Kirstin Maldonado of Pentatonix. The Symphonic Choir was a consortium member for Eric Whitacre’s Good Night Moon and the choirs have also performed with Eliot Sloan of Blessid Union of Souls.
Mr. Spalding holds a bachelor of music in music education from the University of Kentucky. Ben’s a cappella roots go back to college, when he was a member of the University of Kentucky acoUstiKats (as seen on NBC’s The Sing-Off) and a semi-professional group called 5 by Tuesday. Ben is a founding member and has served as the treasurer of the A Cappella Education Association. He has also served as the Program Manager for High School Outreach for the Contemporary A Cappella Society of America. He has served as a judge for both the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards and the International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella.
Ben currently resides in Centerville, Ohio with his wife and two daughters. Music has and always will be a major driving force in his life.
